Laneway opens a third warehouse in Groveport

This week we opened our third warehouse, a 140,000 square foot building on the same road as our Groveport truck yard. With it, Laneway now runs 410,000 square feet of warehouse space across three buildings in the Columbus area.

My father started this company in 1994 with two trucks and no warehouse at all. We opened the first building on Alum Creek Drive in 2009 because customers kept asking us to hold freight between loads. The second followed in 2017. This one exists for the same reason: our customers needed more room, and they wanted it close to the trucks.

What the new building adds

• 28 dock doors, four of them with levelers for low trailers and box trucks

• 32-foot clear height with racking for 18,000 pallet positions

• A 12,000 square foot cooler held at 34 to 38°F for produce and dairy

• A pick and pack area for e-commerce orders with same-day ship until 3:00 pm

Why it sits next to the yard

Putting the warehouse a few hundred feet from where our trucks park cuts out a shuttle move on every outbound load. Freight can be picked in the morning and on a Laneway truck by lunch, without waiting for a carrier to show up.

It also means our drivers and our warehouse team work side by side. When a load is running late, the person loading the trailer can walk over and talk to the person who will drive it.

Our customers needed more room, and they wanted it close to the trucks.

Hiring for the new building

We are hiring 24 warehouse associates for the new building, on day and evening shifts at $19 to $22 an hour. You can find the role on our Drive for us page, or stop by the Groveport office any weekday.
