The challenge
On a Tuesday afternoon the supplier's contract carrier gave notice and pulled its trucks the same day. The supplier ships brake assemblies to an assembly plant that keeps four hours of parts on hand. A missed delivery would stop the line, at a penalty of $18,000 for every hour of downtime.
Their plant logistics manager called our dispatch line at 1:40 pm with four loads that had to leave that evening.
What we did
Dispatch moved four tractors and dry vans off flexible freight and had the first truck at the supplier's dock by 5:10 pm. By 7:40 pm all four were loaded, sealed and on the road to Lansing.
Four trucks and eight drivers assigned within the first hour
A backup truck staged near the plant for every shift that week
ETA updates to the plant’s materials team every hour until delivery
A 30-day bridge agreement signed by Friday, then a full lane contract
What changed
6 h
from first call to four trucks loaded
0
minutes of line downtime
38
loads a week now running on contract
